Remington 512X

Posted on September 7, 2022

This customer had asked to restore his brother’s Remington model 512X .22 bolt action rifle. This particular model was sold in the 1960’s and had an improved iron sight for better accuracy. The butt stock was cracked and glued several years ago, and it was in need of a good refinishing. After soaking the stock in Acetone for a few hours, the glue on the crack was just as solid as the day it was fused back together. I was able to re-blue the barrel and ran all the parts through an ultrasonic cleaner. The stock was stripped, and I blended the crack in so it was harder to see. After a linseed oil finish and a new butt plate replica, this rifle is ready for the range again.
