This L1A1 Sporter is an “inch pattern” variant. It was obviously a military weapon at one point in time. I was asked to try and clean up the stock as it was soaked in gun oil for many years. After a long period of whiting, I was able to pull most of the oil out of the wood and start on a finish. We went with a satin finish, using a rub on polyurethane. We ran all the components through an ultrasonic cleaner and gave it a good deep cleaning. The owner was having some stove-piping issues at the range, and this model has a variable gas nozzle that seemed to be wide open. After some research, it was set for using a grenade launcher, which this rifle does NOT have. Several surplus military weapons used different types of grenade launchers, such as the M14, however this particular model has a gas setting for range when firing a grenade. We’re excited to take this to the range with the owner and see if it performs accordingly.
